Painful Bladder Syndrome |
Painful Bladder Syndrome (PBS), or Interstitial Cystitis (IC), is a chronic condition characterized by bladder pain, urinary urgency, and frequency. The exact cause is unknown, but it may involve a defect in the bladder lining, increased nerve sensitivity, or an autoimmune process. Symptoms often worsen before menstruation and can be triggered by stress.
Management of PBS involves a combination of dietary changes, bladder training, physical therapy, and medications. Avoiding foods that irritate the bladder, such as caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods, can help alleviate symptoms. Physical therapy may be used to relieve pelvic floor muscle spasms. In some cases, medications such as bladder relaxants or Botox may be prescribed to protect the bladder lining and reduce pain. Recognizing the significant emotional burden of living with chronic pain is critical to comprehensive treatment, and we strive to offer customised management strategies aligned with individual circumstances and preferences
