Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when one or more of the pelvic organs, such as the bladder, ‎uterus, ‎or rectum, bulge into or out of the vagina due to weakened pelvic muscles and ‎ligaments. This ‎can result in a heavy dragging sensation in the pelvis, a lump in the vagina, ‎urinary or bowel ‎difficulties, and discomfort during intercourse.‎

Management:  ‎

Given the impact of prolapse on daily life and self-esteem, women need individualised ‎‎management. Management options for pelvic organ prolapse range from conservative ‎treatments ‎like pelvic floor exercises and pessaries to surgical repairs aimed at restoring ‎the normal position ‎of the pelvic organs. The choice of treatment depends on the severity ‎of the prolapse, symptoms, ‎and patient preferences. For surgical management most of the ‎times the body’s own tissues can ‎be harvested. Very rarely there may be a need for a ‎Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) ‎approved synthetic mesh product which needs ‎careful consideration and planning.‎
